A working balanced cable of ordinary length does not, in any way that has survived a controlled listening test. Balanced wiring rejects interference by design and cable capacitance over a few metres has no audible effect at audio frequencies. Claims to the contrary are not supported by measurement, and this is worth saying plainly even though it costs a sale.

When there is interference to reject, when the run is long, and when the cable is handled constantly. Near dimmers, fluorescent lighting or heavy mains runs, better shielding audibly reduces hum. On a fifty metre run, capacitance starts to matter. On a static three metre run in a bedroom, neither applies.

A crackling or intermittent channel is almost always this rather than a fault in your interface, so swap the cable before suspecting anything else.
