Privacy policy

This policy describes what HomeRecordingSetup.com collects, why, and who else is involved. The short version: analytics through Google Analytics 4, an email address only if you type one into a form, and affiliate click tracking on outbound Amazon links. There are no accounts, no logins and nothing to sign up for beyond an optional email list.
What is collected automatically
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and which calculators get used. GA4 sets cookies and collects the usual set: pages viewed, time on page, approximate location derived from IP address, referring site, device type, browser and operating system. IP addresses are anonymised by Google before storage.
Nothing in that set identifies you personally to us. We can see that a certain number of people in a region opened the room mode calculator. We cannot see who they are.
We also record an affiliate click event when an outbound Amazon link is clicked, capturing the destination and the page the click came from. That exists so we can tell which recommendations are actually useful to readers, and it contains no personal information.
What is collected only if you provide it
The build guide capture forms ask for an email address and record which page the address came from. Those submissions go to a Google Forms spreadsheet. The email address is used to send the build list you asked for and occasional related updates, and you can unsubscribe from the first email onward.
The contact form asks for a name, an email address, an optional page reference and a message. It is delivered by FormSubmit as an email to [email protected]. Contact submissions are not added to any mailing list, which is the reason the two forms use different services rather than one.

Following an affiliate link takes you to Amazon, at which point Amazon's own privacy policy governs everything that happens there. The link carries a tag identifying this site as the referrer so a qualifying purchase is credited. See the affiliate disclosure for how that works commercially.
What is not collected
- No accounts, passwords or logins, because there is nothing to log into.
- No payment information. Nothing is sold directly on this site.
- No values you type into a calculator. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is transmitted anywhere, including your room dimensions.
- No data knowingly collected from anyone under 13.
The calculator point is worth repeating because people reasonably assume otherwise. The calculators are plain JavaScript running on your device. Your room dimensions, buffer settings and gain figures never leave the page.
Cookies and how to refuse them
The only cookies set are the Google Analytics ones described above. You can block or delete them through your browser settings, use a browser that blocks trackers by default, or install Google's own opt-out browser add-on. Blocking them has no effect on any feature of this site, including the calculators.
Your rights over your data
If you have submitted an email address, you can ask for it to be removed at any time and it will be deleted from the spreadsheet. Every email sent also carries an unsubscribe link. If you are in a jurisdiction with statutory data rights such as the GDPR or the CCPA, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal data we hold, which for almost everyone is either nothing at all or a single email address.

Data retention
Analytics data is retained according to the Google Analytics retention setting, currently the standard period. Email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or request removal. Contact form messages are retained in the recipient email account as ordinary correspondence.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page will change and the change will be described here. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
